Business suits – how often and how much?
LondonGuy asked:
Is it better to buy an expensive suit and keep it for 2 years, or buy a cheap suit and keep it for 1 year?

Cheap suit as it may not be good quality wise but Having the same suit for two years will be extremely boring. A cheap suit means you can get a fresh look every year Kitty
you should definetely go with an expensive suit but make sure it is perfect& exactly what you need.it should be something you can wear with anything so you can go with a different look each time you wear it.keep it in good condition too. dont go with the cheap suit because its QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. you can have a lot of cheap suits that wont impress anybody, but if you want to impress somebody go with the expensive one. ….cati….
I find that you will need multiple suits in your wardrobe. Different ones for different occasions e.g. travelling. Also ones for summer and winter, and three and two buttoned ones. So you will want to start building it up a little. You need suits from across the board, from cheap ones to expensive ones.
A cheap suit will start from about £30 or so from ASDA (and they are really cheap, and synthetic. Plus they’re cut really badly.
A middle range suit would be between £100-300 from department stores such as M&S or John Lewis. These are cut much better, and are made from wools usually.
A top range suit can also be found in some department stores and will be upwards of £500-£10000 (yes you read correctly ten thousand). Still off the rack but always well cut and slimming. You will also probably recognise the label (e.g. Armani, Aquascutum, Kenzo etc). They can employ more exotic fabrics such as silk.
A tailored suit will be made for you, and 100% hand made and unique. If you go to the far east they can cost less than £200, but in the UK you can be paying four or five figures easily. The suit will be custom made for you, to your exact sizes (the tailor will measure virtually make every measurement possible from neck down), and your exact requirements.
Best recommendation, get a one from the top of the middle range, something like a Ted Baker from John Lewis. Then if you ever find yourself in China or India get a suit made for you, they are amazingly quick and efficient at it. ChaoRingmeister
