I only have one…. should I go with a different outfit and be less professional-looking (more business casual), or wear the same suit and change things up a little (different shirt, hair done differently?)

Unless it’s for a manager position, is it too much to wear a suit and tie for an interview?

SwimGuy asked:

I used to work in human resources, and I always thought it was too much for people to wear a suit and tie for an interview for low-paying office jobs.
At least I didn’t like it. I wanted to see how they would look everyday. I was more impressed with someone who dressed presentable who I could tell dressed that way on a regular basis. I think I can tell how confortable people feel with what they are wearing, and know if that’s the way they really dress.
Now, I have my own business. I always dress with colorful, bright long-sleeve shirts and pants. I don’t think I have any clothes other than from GAP, Banana Republic, and Perry Ellis. I don’t think I need to dress any better, I don’t even own a tie.

I still interview people. But now, I hate it even more when people wear a suit and tie.

Why do people dress in a way that’s not going to be how they are really going to be dressing?

For a interview, how vital is a suit jacket for a woman?

Sarah D asked:

A lot of interview sites state that anything short of a full suit, dress shirt, pumps, and a attache case is unacceptable. However, the majority of these sites are for the business world. Not everyone is interviewing for a business position. So for example when interviewing for a job that has an office casual or less dress code, would something like a shell and a cardigan be acceptable or for that matter a dress shirt sans jacket?

CorBlimey asked:

I have a very smart loose fitting suit that looks perfectly OK with a very nice shirt buttoned up with no tie

I like that look

A safe option is the suit with classic white shirt and tie (which I don’t like)

Does ‘Business Casual absolutely necessitate a tie or can I get away with the first option?

Job is for ground crew.

I don’t know what to do. I’m trying to decide what career would best suit me. At first I wanted to go into the medical field. However, now that I’m in Business Computer Information Systems class, I think that I would do excellent in a career such as that. The problem is I want the career to be fun, exciting and challenging. Something that would involve interactions with people. I don’t want to be sitting in front of the computer all day.

Arwen asked:

I don’t want to look like I’m going to a funeral, and that’s the message the mirror is giving me with this suit. I’m considering a red blouse under the black jacket, with matching shoes and handbag.

My interview is at a job where, if I am hired, I will likely end up wearing jeans most days, “business casual” is considered dressy in my line of work.

asked:

I have an interview tomorrow at a hotel I worked at all through high school and college. I havent worked there in over a year but, I got an interview for a job in the sales department. I know i have to dress up in a suit even though I its just a business casual environment. So since its summertime…would a nice solid colored sleevless shirt under a black suit be so bad?
