How do I find a clergyman who has vestments and will wear them for our NoVa wedding?

We’re having a historical theme wedding in Fairfax County, VA and having an officiant in a modern business suit would be jarring. Also, I’m not even gonna bother trying to find someone who already has the right historical costume.

The idea is vestments change much more slowly than regular clothing styles. In that way, wearing the modern version is also being dressed in a historical costume.

If you believe in the tenets of the Episcopal faith, you might look into being married by an Episcopal priest. I believe that most of them wear their vestments for occasions like weddings and funerals, as well as Sunday services. Every Episcopal wedding I’ve been to featured a priest in robes, even outdoor ones. The more formal and “high church” the church is, the more likely the priest is to dress in this way. You can search for one by looking at the websites of the churches in your area and seeing what kinds of services they offer and if the website looks contemporary or classical. It’s not a promise of anything, but it’s a good indicator.

Of course, you might end up with a female priest, which would be quite historically inaccurate but might have the right look, still! Miss Paperwhites
