It depends on the nature of the business.

If it’s banking or finance related, or it involves the solicitation or signing of large deals with high level management, I’d wear a full suit and tie. If it’s a first meeting, wear a suit and tie to be safe.

For ongoing business, a more casual mode of dress can usually be adopted (slacks, shoes with socks (no loafers, please), a button down shirt and a blazer), bring a tie and wear it or lose it if the rest of the group is less formal.

I’ve worked my way up and down the clothing food chain, depending on the nature of what’s going on. When I’m on the factory floor, I’ll take it all the way down to jeans and a casual shirt. Avoid t-shirts, running shoes, torn clothing, etc. Izzy F

Well-tailored business suits. They should be elegant, subdued, and conservative. No flashy jewellery. The Swiss despise ostentatious displays of wealth. mushy001

If it’s business, during business hours, wear a suit and tie. If you notice others are more relaxed, you can take off the jacket. As the visitor, you want to make an impression. If you are overdressed people will still talk to you. If you are underdressed, they will talk about you.
You can ask your admin asst to talk to their admin asst and get the scoop on what to wear. I usually ask those questions when my executives travel or meet with new people. No admin asst? Ask your host. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness. SailorsWife
