He looks like he has money to spend and would be a good tipper. The other guy may do a runner but the man in the suit looks respectable and would stay to pay the bill. Also the man in the suit would look like he is working to may go back to the same restaurant each lunch hour if he got good service. Sparrow
He looks richer
LOL and he looks + profesional!!!!! He is a man with a job but not always that could be the reason. A normal person could be waliking into a store with a buissnes suit but his story is:He was going to get a job(an interview) but he failed at it HEHEHE Niki
I was trying to think of something important to me, but, to be honest, I came up with nothing. Unable to think, I gave up and decided to check out Peter’s new “I speak Ingrish shirt.” Upon looking at his shirt, I started to notice everything he was wearing. It was the usual “Peter look;” he was wearing his shorts/pants/baggy Capri (frankly I don’t know what the heck they are), his white K Swiss shoes, and a t-shirt. If Peter chose not to wear these things, then he would not be the same Peter. Then I started to wonder WHY he wears things like this, and a question came to me. Why do clothes play such a huge role in distinguishing who we are, as people, in society? I’ve always seen clothes as something that you wear to feel comfortable, or to show that you like a certain thing, but why is this? Why do clothes matter so much? I haven’t ever wondered why this is, until now.
My question posed many problems for me, though. Since there isn’t a specific answer for my question, searching was difficult, and I would need many different opinions and views. Due to this, it would make search engines, such as Google and Ask.com, useless. Yahoo! Answers, however, made it easier to get a wide variety of people’s opinions. I received opinions from aspiring designers, people that were just interested in the question, and even a guy that claimed to be a transvestite cross dresser express their personal beliefs.
There are many different valid answers to this question, but there were only a few that I thought summed everything up pretty well. First of all, clothes are basically the segregation of social groups and social class. If we did not have a wide variety of clothes, we would all appear to be the same. For example, a man dressed in a three piece suit would be welcomed into a variety of places and be treated very highly by the staff; whereas, if the same man were to wear jeans, a t-shirt, and flip flops, he would not be accepted into quite as many places.
Every individual needs his or her own unique dress code to let others know who they are. Clothes are an expression of who we are, and they help us demonstrate to people what we like and what we stand for. A person wearing a pro-gay marriage shirt is obviously for gay marriage, and he or she is expressing their beliefs through his or her own opinion. Hypothetically, if you were at a new school, and knew no one, you could use people’s clothes as a way to get to know them. If you saw a person wearing a shirt with a band, movie, or sports team you like, you could use that as a topic to break the ice. People that have bold styles are probably bold people, and people with a more relaxed style are probably more laid back.
Also, clothes help distinguish how people live and what they do for a living. What would a cowboy be without his cowboy hat; a banker without his suit,; Angus Young without his school boy costume; a drag queen without her glitter, tassels, and Rhine-stones? If you saw a person decked out in designer clothes, then it would be safe to make the assumption that that person is well off,; however, if you saw somebody in a shirt, representing how they feel about a certain kind a illegal plant, and ripped jeans with dirt on them, you could assume that they are somebody you probably wouldn’t want to baby sit your kids. Many things can be assumed about a person by the things he or she wears.
My search was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I received as many people’s opinions as I could and meshed them together. I think my search process went very well, but my personal interview was a little more difficult to attain. The question is so general that it is hard to expand, in order to make a lot of questions. If I could do something different, I would probably push myself to figure out a question more quickly, because it took me quite a while. I would defiantly use Yahoo! Answers again, though. I learned that clothes are, in fact, more than just something to cover up your body, and it does, in fact, matter what you wear if you want to make a positive impression about yourself, in society. candid101
It depends. Is the guy wearing the suit bald??? Does the guy in flip flops have small feet??? I mean, of course the guy in the suit is going to get treated better just because he’s wearing a suit and it looks like he has more money. But still, he could be bald. Ditzy D
simply enough, because that person is perceived of being wealthy, no matter what. It’s so strange…whenever i see a man in a business suit, not only do i feel respectful towards him, but envious and intimidated by him. But at a restaurant, i think it’s as closed minded as the fact that they think he’s wealthy. To dress up like that, especially if it’s at a casual restaurant spells money into the eyes of the owner of that place. They’d give that guy the golden treatment versus a normally dressed person anyday, no matter what you end up ordering. Libernation1776
