Isn’t it horrible that society has gotten so law suit happy that business have to do this?
I work part time in a mall and the food court throws out the food they did not sell that day because they can’t sell it as fresh the next day. All of them do this. Bags and bags of food. I asked why don’t they give the food to the homeless people that are hanging around. They said they can’t there is a precedence somewhere that if they choke on it or get sick that they can be sued. (I don’t understand myself why it is not true for paying customers but that is what they all tell me) The only thing they can do is take it a shelter/soup kitchen but they would have to pay the employees more to take it there daily and they are not willingly do it. I started asking around and apparently fast food places and restaurants through food out daily all around for this reason. Isn’t sad that all that food goes to waste because of so happy lawyers.

When I was in school, the Tim Hortons down the road used to donate racks of day old dough-nuts, and other goodies to the school. Then the school stopped accepting it because one person had a mild nut allergy.

Its not the lawyers dear, its the business owners, in NY there is an organization that goes to restaurants and picks up the food for the poor, no lawsuits, and there are probably more lawyers per square foot in NY than anywhere else on earth.
In a mall they don’t want to have homeless people gathering for free meals, and they don’t want to pay someone to take it away, garbage is something they already pay for. justagrandma
I used to have 2 German Shepherds as watch dogs at my motorcycle shop and they would disappear each day around the same time so this one day I decided to follow them and first they went to the McDonalds and jumped into the dumpster and every once in a while their heads would pop up as they unwrapped a cheese burger and wolved it down. Then they would go across the street at EXACTLY the same time that Church’s Chicken was gettting ready to throw out their old chicken and the dogs would sit at the drive up window and smile. The employees apparently knew them by then and would throw 10 or 20 pieces to each of them. I always wondered why they would come back looking all bloated and would wince a bit when I patted them on the ribs.
They never choked on a chicken bone and seemed to have a regular routine down. AFter that they would run it off by going down to the beach and running about 5 miles to the next town and up to the main street and cruise the sidewalks there. I never knew until a customer said that they saw the dogs in downtown one day and I began to wonder.
Too bad the homeless aren’t as smart. Actually, I think I did see a homeless guy in the McD’s dumpster one day so maybe the dogs decided to share the wealth and let him in on it.
Plus, some fast food gets pretty gross when it slows down and gets cold.
You might mention to the shelters and soup kitchens what’s happening and suggest that THEY send someone to the fast food places at the proper time each day and take the food off of their hands. dartagnon p
