Ladies formal/business attire?
when men wear dress shoes, pants, belt, shirt and tie, what is the equivalent on a lady?
i could see a conservative business suit in the category, but what else?
does age make a difference? the age group is 17-26ish. maybe more like 18-23 years old.
occasion? i am supposed to speak(with powerpoint) to a group(maybe 30 or so)
ps it is not a real presentation, but a class assignment.
the male prof says, men wear this, tie, etc, and then doesnt say anything about women, because since hes a man he says he doesnt know. fair enough, but i dont want to be underdressed since its for a grade.
i was thinking dress shoes, suit pants and a button up. all non crazy colors and styles. appropriate enough or not enough?
also if anyone could recommend a book about ladies formal/business attire that i could get at barnes and nobles. com or something, thatd be great too

Sorry, I can’t recommend a book, perhaps the bookstore or library could help, surely Martha or Amy or Gloria wrote at least a chapter on female business attire.
You are asking what a woman, who is dressing equally to a man should wear? For a lady, the ladies equivalent is just what you might expect, change only those things that must be worn by a female.Conservative is the word. Dark, plain suit, no gold buttons. Everyday suit could be dark grey, but for meetings with the boss and clients, black.
Jewelry is kept to the minimum, a plain watch, and a tiny pair of plain earrings, post, and way smaller than the earlobe they pierce. But if you are looking for the equivalent, no jewelry except the watch.
Hair upswept, with no visible ornament, or if you must, one the same color as your hair.
White shirt, button down or traditional, top button is closed.. A shell blouse would be OK, woman do not absolutely have to wear a shirt [but it is not the equivalent]. Jewel neckline, never sleeveless. White, non-shiny material. With a shirt, a small scarf, or a necktie equiv, to match the suit. Women used to wear a short ribbon around their neck, black, that was crossed in the space between the collar, just in front of the neck, and a tiny tie tack holding it in place. Some wore ties, some a solid, non-frilly scarf. A small bow was acceptable, in place of a tie.
A- line or straight skirt, no higher than touching the top of the knee. Hose, the same as the person’s skin color, or perhaps a shade darker. Black pumps, chunky heel, no higher than 2 inches, no decorations. Matching briefcase, matching purse.
Very conservative make-up, designed to enhance, and not be seen.
And the clothes should fit as if they were tailor made, just as a man’s suit should, they should not be too tight.
These days, a matched pantsuit is acceptable. No wide bell bottoms, hose or socks are both acceptable, but again, if you want equal, socks, or the hose match the pants color.
Such a lot of fuss to be equal in dress to the men.
Sometimes, I am glad of my job, nurses wear white, and at my hospital, conservative street clothes, or royal blue uniform is acceptable. Men do the same.
Gee, hope this helps. riversconfluence
You can never go wrong with the classic navy blue suit and pumps.
Chances are there’s a recruiting/job placement center on your campus. Stop in and ask them about professional dress. They probably have some books you can thumb through. Isadora01
business attire for women is: suits, dresses, skirts and blouses, slacks and a blouse. you should not wear open-toed shoes, jeans, sundresses. what you were thinking would be appropriate. frostbite
