superval13 asked:

when men wear dress shoes, pants, belt, shirt and tie, what is the equivalent on a lady?

i could see a conservative business suit in the category, but what else?

does age make a difference? the age group is 17-26ish. maybe more like 18-23 years old.

occasion? i am supposed to speak(with powerpoint) to a group(maybe 30 or so)

ps it is not a real presentation, but a class assignment.

the male prof says, men wear this, tie, etc, and then doesnt say anything about women, because since hes a man he says he doesnt know. fair enough, but i dont want to be underdressed since its for a grade.

i was thinking dress shoes, suit pants and a button up. all non crazy colors and styles. appropriate enough or not enough?

also if anyone could recommend a book about ladies formal/business attire that i could get at barnes and nobles. com or something, thatd be great too

Ladies suit would be appropriate, you could always add some color with a scarf. A blouse and dress slacks or skirt is fine if that is what you have, hose or trouser socks with flat black dress shoes are almost always appropriate, unless you are going with very spring colors, then you should wear off-white, white or bone shoes. Avoid sweaters, unless they are dressy…nothing bold or bulky. Good Luck! Amy 911

Go to the bookstore and check out a book called “Dress for Success”. The equivalent on a lady to the man’s attire you listed would be a low heeled pumps, a dark skirt with skin tone or tan sheer hose, and a blouse.

That should get you an “A”.

    Good luck! Joe J

    Hi,

I just started working in at a place where everyone dresses up in business attire. I recently did my wardrobe to suit the dress envrionment at work.

I would suggest you to wear a knee-length skirt in shades of black/charcoal/gray and matched jacket.
You can team that up with a pastel shade blouse within. Maybe a light pink/pastel green/white or a dark purple v neck or round neck blouse.
And any black closed-front flat sandals. Since you are giving a presentation, wearing heels maybe uncomfortable.

I dont think you should buy a book. Just go to websites like ann-taylor, banana republic, macys, nordstrom and check out the career/business apparel section for womens. That will give you a lot of idea on how to dress up.

Once you have an idea you can collect these things from stores like Express or The Limited or any lower priced store. You can mix and match things once you have pictures collected from those high-end clothing stores.

Hope this helps! Good luck. k3_bg88
