Is it too much to wear a suit to these interviews?

My husband graduated with his BS in Mechanical Engineering this past June. Man, it’s been rough out there! He’s been on 4 interviews, even goes back for second and possibly third interviews, but not yet chosen. He wears a nice suit to these interviews, gets a hair cut … I think it’s doing too much for a design job. He says that typically the attire at the business when he goes for his interview is casual. Is the suit killing it a bit?

I currently go for a short regular hair cut. But, I want to present a serious and professional image. I should not be distractful at all, but something which adds value (if adding a value is possible at all). Are there any services available which suggest such styles based on our personality?
