My husband and I are going to a ’ships ball’ (naval ball in other words), and I wanted him to wear his grey suit with a cream coloured shirt, not sure what colour tie yet, to go with my cream coloured dress. He has sent me an email with the dress code. This event is to be held in a casino, if that helps. Here is the exact phrasing:
Remember dress is black tie/formal therefore ladies are strongly encouraged to dress up to the hilt (cocktail dresses are suitable) and gents are to wear a tuxedo or dark suit with tie.
I can’t find anything on the internet which actually says whether grey is considered dark or not. It is a mid grey I suppose you would say, not a charcoal or dark grey.
Oh also it isn’t pin striped. I am aware pinstripes are for business suits only, that is about as far as my suit knowledge extends :P
As an edit, I would also like to know if anyone thinks it is even that big a deal if he wears grey. Its only a bunch of sailors, who will most likely all be off their faces 2 hours into the event anyway! Hahaha!

Women’s business suits. MUST HAVE pants/jacket set, or is it okay to mix & match?

It’s happened a few times where I find great deals on suit jackets (sold as separates, obviously) that I just love, but am unable to find the coordinating pants. My question is: is it okay to mix and match elements from different suit “sets?” The “black” from one designer could be completely different from the “black” from another, the materials are most likely not the same and thus have subtly different “grains,” but does this mean you can’t mix and match? Can you wear a jacket that has black with blue pinstripes and pair it with a pair of solid black suit pants?

I have an interview tomorrow with a very prestigeous auction house, which was scheduled on very short notice. Because of this, I had only 5 hours today to search for a professional business suit, plus sized, on a tight budget. Since every store is now focused on pastels, capris, sandals, and tanks (argh!!) I was only able to find separates-a navy pinstriped blazer, and a solid navy pair of pants. The blue is exactly that same on the pants and the blazer, only the top has the pinstripes. Is this tacky? Will the interviewer take this as a negative? Take into account that this is only an office assistant job. Thank you for your input!

DKASKS asked:

I saw a mens suit that had light blue pinstripes spaced about an inch apart from eachother. The man wearing it said he got it in France, but I am looking for something similar in the US. Does anyone know where I can get this suit (i.e. what store/website)? And what designer/brand name (ralph lauren, etc…) makes this suit?

Thanks!!

Okay, I have this chocolate brown suit that has white pinstripes; but I want to make the pinstripes ocean blue. What is the best way to do this without ruining the suit?

And yes, I tried buying a suit that already came like that, no luck.
