What are those pins the Brits were on their suit lapels during October and November?

The pins look like pumpkins or tomatoes with a leaf on top and I see them mostly on mens lapel suits worn on the right side.

    They are poppies and they are worn to remember the people who died for us during the war – It symbolizes that we Will always remember them. Jellybaby

    artificial Poppies as remined of the fields of flanders where ca 5 million people died in World War one, which started three years before the US had ever heard of it … Annually there is a service of remembrance in London where one poppy leaf-petal falls per person who died there ….you’ll also see it in NZ and Australia though less so as many of their people were fighting there too… Dad

    They are paper Poppies. We wear them to commemorate the people that have died in acts of war and we buy them from the British Legion and the money goes to a charity aiding ex soldiers. joey v
