What colour shirt and tie with a dark charcoal, almost black, thin/feint pinstripe suit, for wedding?
Hi all. Got a wedding next weekend. Picked out a nice, well fitting suit, but I’ve always hated picking the shirts and ties to go with them. The suit is a very dark charcoal almost black, with very thin very feint pin stripes. Single breasted, two button fastening. Now im pretty sure you shouldn’t do striped shirt with a striped tie. But Im really stuck on what colour shirt and tie to go with. Im not the biggest fan of white shirts as I think it looks a little too business like for a wedding. I’m thinking maybe a pastel lemon/yellow or a pastel pink or light blue for the shirt. But no clues about ties? Any suggestions welcomed! Also, should it be black or brown shoes as I have both?

With a black suit it is hard to go wrong. Do a baby blue shirt if you have blue eyes or green if u have green eyes if you have brown try to do a light yellow. for the tie try to stay around with the same color as the shirt. soulsurfer360
a nice blue will go nice with a gray/blue stripe tie sara76c
light pastel blue silk would look nice!
with a patterned dark blue + light blue tie, and black dress shoes.
very classy! xocarly
white shirt with buttons and a blue tie. I think that looks awsome oh and brush ur hair nice too and wear black shoes…How does brown match black? Kitt
do either a pink or light green shirt with a black or grey or silver tie. what are the wedding colors? try those. u can so a striped tie skinny whore
Definitely black shoes. Not brown with the grey.
I love pink shirts on guys, especially for a wedding. Any pastel color would be fine. Go with a tie that is a darker version of that color, and solid, like: light blue shirt, medium blue tie: lavender shirt, purple tie. Or go with a grey tie. Pink shirt would go great with a grey tie. Ooh, I can picture that, and I like it!
Or go ask the folks at the menswear store near yu, they can tell what looks good with your skin tone, what’s in season, and what suits your budget best.
Have fun! littlblueyes
As far as ties go, I’m a huge fan of Vineyard Vines
I buy my husband’s ties there and his shirts from Thomas Pink and if you bring a tie to them, they’ll match a shirt for you! I’m sure most other men’s stores will do that. Go either with blues or salmons or yellows or old fashioned white. Try Brooks Brothers too. You don’t want to go into the dark colors as many men’s stores (Men’s Warehouse comes to mind) push because they will make you look cheap and dated.
Since your suit is technically charcoal you can do brown shoes. Even if its a dark charcoal. You can also do a cognac dress shoe. Someone said black – if these were women’s clothes yes but the rules are different for men. Try looking up the book “Dressing the Man”

I love blue with charcoal, but pink looks great, too. (I don’t really like white, either.) Your shoes should be black. Ties are a little bit harder…hm…if you wear a blue shirt, I think you should get a solid gray tie that’s a little bit lighter than the gray of your suit. The color gray depends on the color blue of the shirt you get:
This would look good with a more medium blue:
Silver would look best if you wear a pastel blue: Shells
