What should I wear with my navy blue suit to match my formal date?

Dave asked:

So I have my fraternity’s formal coming up and I only have a dark navy blue suit to wear. My date will be wearing a black dress.

When I wear a blue shirt and whatever tie, I feel like I look more business dressed than formal due to the suit color… A white shirt and black tie doesn’t really match the suit at all.

What shirt/tie color combo would give the best “formal” look and still match her dress and my suit?

Thanks

black goes with anything so you could basically wear whatever you like.
i suggest whatever you chose, you could buy her a corsage to match you rach.

I think you should ditch the tie altogether.

Maybe a black shirt that’s unbuttoned a little on the top.
Or white would look equally as good.

The fact that your wearing a suit in the first place is formal enough.
You’ll look more trendy without a tie too. :)

    Hope this helps. :D PhoenixFlapjack

you could swap the long neck tie for a bow tie – can’t be accused of business dress with a bow tie as it’s not mainstream business attire.
Maybe add a colored vest/waistcoat to the suit and match the tie color. beauthai25
