txgirl asked:

I need to know what’s the best way to store suits so they don’t get damaged. I have about a dozen suits that I will not be needing for about 12 to 18 months and have no idea how I should store them. I have some closet space (not an entire closet) or can box them. Also, I live in the Houston area (very humid).

Any tips or websites would be appreciated. Thanks!

You could fold and box them. they should be fine. Unfortunately, you have to use moth balls to keep them from getting eaten. If you could get a cedar chest that would be the best.

The best way would be to wash or dry clean them before storage. Stains will set in after long-term storage. Then, if you have vinyl or cloth garment or suit bags, I would put them in those, stick a few pieces of cedar wood in the bottom of the bag to repel moths, and hang them in the back of the closet. This is the best option, in my opinion.
If space is at a premium, you could use the Space Bag made for hanging garments (about $10 at any Walmart, etc.). Even a regular or cube Space Bag would work. Just be aware that when you take them out of the Space Bag, they will be in dire need of pressing.
Third option, you could fold them and store in a plastic storage tote. Again, you want to use cedar to be on the safe side, and they will get wrinkled. However, they will be protected from dust and environmental contaminants.
I don’t recommend using cardboard boxes or plastic dry-cleaning bags. They might do in a pinch, but aren’t the best protection for clothing that you may have a lot of money invested in. Try to handle as little as possible, or wear gloves. The natural oils on your hands can cause stains on clothing that is stored long-term.
These are my best suggestions, hope one of them works for you.
