Ryan D asked:

Does anyone ever notice that there are women that wear business seats and sometimes even a tie when working in a movie theater, at a hotel, or any office. Why can women wear business seats and dress like men but MEN CAN NEVER DRESS LIKE WOMEN?!!! I never see a man in a skirt or a dress unless he is gay. Shorts yes for men but not skirts. And men don’t wear brawls either.

What if someone did see a man wearing a dress though? Wont that be odd? It certainly isn’t odd for women to wear a suit and tie!

u yourself can try and u will get the answer as by wearing ladies costumes the man looks like eunuch which for his personality does not suit him as man should always look like a man only Kanha

In some countries, men wear kilts (or however you spell it) which is kind of like a skirt for men. The male version of the bra is called the bro. I’m not sure if that last part is made up or not, but I’ve heard it somewhere… LovesOrochimaru518

if you want to wear a dress, or skirt at least in the USA they must be allowed or face discrimination charges, and in scotland a kilt, or skirt, is common. Its normal to see a women in men’s attire because more women chose to dress this way until it became common. Women wear bras because they need support, and men don’t (shouldn’t). Jessica J

This is a cultural thing– an old taboo that still exists today. When a man wears women’s clothes, there is an expectation that he is effeminate or even a transvestite. However, when a woman wears more masculine clothing, she can exude the image of being a “successful, independent, liberated woman.” Some would even say a woman wearing a man’s clothing is cute/sexy. It ain’t the 50s anymore, but we still have gender roles in our society. But notice: this is different in many cultures around the world. For example, in Scotland, it would be perfectly acceptable for either sex to wear s skirt (a kilt). Matt

because wearing a suit or a tie in the a setting such as a hotel is not either masculine or feminine.. its just standard… therefore they are not ‘looking” like men… they are just in uniform

so if a man can be in uniform while wearing a skirt, then that is fine.. ever see a man in uniform playing bagpipes wearing a skirt? yeah they just call it something else.. a kilt! Nikki™

You can dress any way you like. It doesn’t mean you’ll start a trend, or that it’ll even be accepted for you to dress that way. But, as to “brawls”, unless you have boobs, you wouldn’t need one, anyway.

I’ve seen many men wear skirts, dresses, lingerie, and so forth…it isn’t odd to me. For the most part, those men were also straight. Magnolia

I think it has to do with the perception of women being weaker and less competent than men. There for to dress like a women is to power down and claim a lessor status. queenjeanarlene

Some girls look intimidating and sexy in a manly outfit such as a suit and tie. However, for guys your right it’s considered gay. It’s just how society judges it. Guys use to never wear pink either but now there’s tons that do. More and more things are being accepted into society as time goes on so who knows, maybe guys will wear skirts without being called gay one day. Men I guess just feel they have to keep their masculinity. Yeah it would be odd to see a man in a skirt but oh well, if you want to go do it, not like you should care what other people think anyways. missash_lw

Men don’t need to wear a bra. A man can dress like a woman, it’s just not socially acceptable.

Women aren’t wearing men’s clothes, they buy them tailored and designed for their figure and in their section of the store.

There is no market for men’s skirts so they aren’t made or sold.

You’re not missing out by not getting to wear a bra. They aren’t comfortable, but what’s more uncomfortable is the weight of your chest pulling you down.

I believe there is an episode of the Simpsons where Homer becomes obese to go on disability and he begins wearing a mu-mu, basically a dress).

You could start a revolution if you really want to wear them. Patty C

It is okay with me if guys want to wear a dress or skirt — I prefer to wear jeans. When I wear a dress or skirt, I have to wear pantyhose, a ‘girdle,’ and a bra. That’s way too much confining clothing.

Frankly, I doubt that many women who have to ‘dress like men’ for their jobs enjoy it very much. It is just the uniform.

Wear whatever you like. Get over it! Mary C
