Why is gold jewelry not acceptable in business attire? Some suits are more expensive than gold chains?

Good Guy asked:

Why isn’t appropriate to wear a gold chain and gold bracelet with my business suit?

Why are companies against it?

  1. rtfm says:

I don’t think it has anything to do with how expensive the jewelry is or what it’s made of — it’s just that, for many professionals in many different industries, jewelry is considered distracting or unprofessional. (And although this may sound sexist, jewelry on men is often frowned upon while the same type of jewelry on women is fine.)

Moral of the story is, if you want to succeed in business, save the bling for the weekends. rtfm

It depends on the industry you are in.

If you want to succeed in a bank dress very very conservatively — regardless of whether you are male or female.

If you want to succeed in the fashion industry avant garde clothing and lots of jewelry are fine — .regardless of whether you are male or female.

    Hope this helps
