Will a slightly miss-matched suit cost me an interview?

I have an interview tomorrow with a very prestigeous auction house, which was scheduled on very short notice. Because of this, I had only 5 hours today to search for a professional business suit, plus sized, on a tight budget. Since every store is now focused on pastels, capris, sandals, and tanks (argh!!) I was only able to find separates-a navy pinstriped blazer, and a solid navy pair of pants. The blue is exactly that same on the pants and the blazer, only the top has the pinstripes. Is this tacky? Will the interviewer take this as a negative? Take into account that this is only an office assistant job. Thank you for your input!
So many amazing answers on this one!! There is no way I can choose…I’ll let you all decide for me. Thanks for the encouraging input :)

No I think that will be fine since the blues are the same. The interviewer will probably think that’s how it’s supposed to look. LoriAnn

It probably wouldn’t look too tacky. Since the blues match it would look ok, and if it is a dude interviewing, he probably will think that is how it is, but be careful with girls. Sometimes pinstripes on the whole suit is too much, so i am sure it will look great! : )

Good Luck with the interview and I hope you land the job! *J*

No! In fact, the darker trousers (without pinstripes) are a great look with a pinstripe jacket. The fact that the blue matches exactly will take care of the “continuity” issue.

There’s NO WAY anyone could take exception to such a classic look. Best of luck to you! solstice_baby

Typically, first impressions are critical. But because the two navy’s are the same it is fine I’m sure! Just be confident, take a deep breath and work your magic! I’m sure you will get the job! Good luck! cleo r

Just look neat. The outfit sounds fine to me, especially for an office assistant job and I think you should worry more about practicing interview questions. ou can pretty much be guarenteed to get the what are your strengths and what are your weaknesses questions. Focus on being on time and pleasant. Do not forget the thank you note. Remember a physical note is usually prefered to an email, but an email is better than nothing. You’ll do fine.

    Good luck!!! svs_g

I wouldn’t be too worried. As long as it fits modestly and is the same color I think it would look nice. I doubt they will even question it. If you are really worried, sending a thankyou letter after the interview is always a nice gesture. It can really make or break the deal. Good luck!!! rachel

No!!!! that actually sounds really good. wearing head to toe pinstripes is yucky. if you’re morris day and the time it’s fine. but if not stay away from the zoot suit look!!!! noviadluismi

I think only a fashion place would be that picky. As long as your overall look is good I’m sure you’ll do fine! just make sure your hair and make up and nails are good.

ANd check the toes! People always forget the toes ;)

    Good luck kristin is great!

Nope it actually looks better if you have pinstripes only on one or the other. It would actually be too much if they matched exactly and also if you had solid on both you would need to break it up with some color or design anyways. Good luck on your interview. You will look great. hehmommy04

lol..when I first saw the title to this question, I thought it was asked by a guy, pertaining to men’s suits and I was about to flip over it…but now that I see that you are a girl asking and have read your description of the suit, I am a bit relieved. I think it will loOK fine darling. I know first impression’s are everything but from the sound of it, I think you will be ok. Do not worry about it. Put on your best smile, greatest attitude and be yourself. Good luck on the interview!!! kimberly s
